Developing a Press Kit

A good tool to have on hand is a press kit. This kit provides journalists with background information about your congregation, and your congregation’s programs. And, it is simple to create. Into a folder, place:

Your business card.

Recent press releases.

Background material about your congregation. This should include all pertinent information about the congregation, the programs you offer for the public, and your mission and focus. The information in this piece should focus on things that the public will see as a benefit to them. Include: Your congregation’s name and history, the history of your congregational nurse program, and a brief description of the types of programs and information you offer that you are attempting to promote.

A one-page fact sheet about your congregation and the congregational nurse program. This is a ‘bare bones” fact sheet, and lists your name, address and phone number, the main contact and phone number, focus of your program, and how it benefits the public.

Biographies of you and other congregational staff. Focus on your current responsibilities. List a brief description of what a congregational nurse does, and your qualifications. You might also want to list previous employment history that would be pertinent.

Use this kit whenever you want to help media sources understand more about your congregational nurse program. If you are meeting with an editor or reporter, make sure that they receive a copy.
